This is easily the most exciting movie I've seen so far of the 2017 releases, and it sure got a lot of hype. However, the film does live up to these high standards, much thanks to Edgar Wright. Baby Driver stars Ansel Elgort as a rather talented getaway driver named Baby who is nearly straight with his crime boss. He meets a lovely girl, and he's ready to retire his dirty-money position. However, when his crime boss wants him back, Complications arise. Congratulations Ansel Elgort, you have finally won me over. Not Divergent, not even as a cancer patient in the Fault in our Stars, but as a quiet and sincere driver. He was easily the best part about the movie, besides the killer soundtrack, incredible action, and smart direction from Wright. Everything was so hecking stylish! In all honesty, I've only ever seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which I wasn't the biggest fan of, but this is one career defining piece. There's such a self assured tone and rhythm to this movie that you start to just put yourself in the movies hands, and let it take you for a wild ride. There is a stellar supporting cast, with the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Lily James, Jamie Foxx, and Eiza Gonzalez. Jamie Foxx is the guy you love to hate, because he literally does not have one enlightening moment. Just a terrible person. Kevin Spacey plays really good Kevin Spacey. Is he good? Is he bad? Who knows. In terms of getting it started, the film begins with an excellently choreographed car chase like the trailer suggests. Then it follows immediately with Ansel Elgort getting coffee and dancing around the street in the least Spider-Man 3 way possible, which, if you don't understand the reference, is very good. Baby has great arc to his character with his deaf foster father and waitress girlfriend. I feel like Debby and him didn't have as excellent chemistry as I could have hoped, but it was a believable romance. About 1/2 way through the movie my mind began to wander slightly, but then it pulled off such an amazing shoot off climax that it pulled me right back in. I knew the ending was how it was going to end, how it was supposed to end. But I couldn't get past that hope, that maybe, just maybe, they could get away with it all. Still an incredible action comedy that you and all your friends should totally see.
