  There's something about cats these days. It feels like they can be Hollywood's newest superstars and leading men, especially after "Garfield: The Movie" and "The Cat in the Hat." And two of these movies share a common similarity - they're both horrible. So hoping for cat movies to be better, director Barry Sonnenfeld casts two Academy award winners.
  
  "Nine Lives" struggles to comprehend and set a uniform tone to its plot. Sometimes it's about these company meetings. Sometimes it's about a family drama or love story. Sometimes it's about Cristopher Walken as a cat whisperer. But for all its innate ridiculousness and convoluted storytelling, Nine Lives isn't as horrible as what critics are saying. It's just a plain-bad summer movie with a terrible CGI feline.
  
  Kevin Spacey truly embraces his role as Mr. Fuzzypants. And his performance is exactly what you'd expect from him. Its jokes include dark humor for adults and slapstick comedy for kids. But whatever these wacky antics and jokes are, it cannot rescue the movie from its poorly-written script.
  
  VERDICT: Nine Lives is a plain-bad summer movie. But for all the hate it has received, one thing's for sure - it's definitely better than watching YouTube cat videos.
