  Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has numerous inventive ideas, and astounding visuals, but none of them are enough to overshadow the painfully simplistic dialogue, and the frozen stiff delivery from its two leads. The narrative is quite interesting, but the film digresses from it too many times, and for too long to make it as captivating as it should be. Overall, Valerian is a gorgeous looking film that plays around with some of the most creative sci-fi ever put to screen, but its lead performances, and writing in general weigh it down considerably.
