On a list of most influential movies, this movie either tops it, or comes damn close. Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon that has lasted for 40 years, and it all started with this little film. George Lucas set out to make something that was reminiscent of his childhood, and he ended up making everybody else's childhood that much better. This film was brave, unique, kinetic, fun and undoubtedly whimsical; as a result, we get whisked away to a land of Jedi, lightsabers, battle-stations and space bounty-hunters, for a story that has influenced nearly 100% of living directors under the age of 50. The film breathes hope into its viewers, with its relatable characters going on romantic quests, and young boys achieving their dreams. This movie inspired me as a film critic, as a filmmaker and as a human being; I hope this movie continues to do so for generations to come.
