This is an example of maximum effort being out into something that is ultimately okay. There are miniatures, an extremely detailed credit sequence, stunts and action scenes!! Not to mention the irresistible concept.
Yet, this is your run of the mill American comedy. So it is fit to bursting with awkward conversations and improv dialogue which brings the whole film to a grinding halt everytime. One minute we are speeding along the freeway, the next we are stuck in mud, traipsing our way through unfunny nothingness.
It's such a shame because there is such potential everywhere in this film. The moments which lean towards the darker sides definitely work, such as one involving a divorcee's shrine and a white dog. If only they had leant into this darkness more.
