Brimming with cinematic know-how, Rose Glass' Saint Maud is a chilling tale of loneliness and delusion. With clear influence by legendary screenwriter Paul Schrader and a brilliantly slick central performance from Morfydd Clark, the film is unnerving and subtle.

What became abundantly clear when watching was the clear inspiration from Taxi Driver. With loneliness being at the heart of this horror it is almost unavoidable. Similarly, we see themes of duality, hedonism, and some darkly comic moments stirred into the mix. While one certain scene felt like a bump in this road of subtlety, Saint Maud was a clear indicator of a director who has an adoration for cinema and horror.
