  • WHAT I LIKED: It's not all as risky and funny as it seems to think, and its story isn't as revolutionary as the humour might have you believe either, but for some reason 'Deadpool,' is still thoroughly engaging and appealing entertainment, and in a way that makes it all the more impressive. Yes this film really is a concoction of some pretty mediocre ingredients but they miraculously come together to create greatness, and that's largely thanks to head chef Ryan Reynolds who carries the entire movie on his shoulders and creates a character that somehow isn't even the least bit annoying and actually has all the surprising humility and charm of... well, Ryan Reynolds. The story he finds himself in builds a fairly standard origin with a weak revenge plot, and the jokes he winds up telling aren't all that brave or clever, but really it's yet another comic-book film that proves a few captivating elements can make something fairly generic genuinely enjoyable and engaging.

VERDICT: A fairly mediocre film underneath, 'Deadpool' is only really a great piece of entertainment because of a charming and appealing central performance, and frankly there's nothing at all wrong - or unusual - about that.
