  • There was a time in Hollywood for making aliens as heartwarming instruments from space. Just like what “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, “Mac and Me” and “Earth to Echo” did, until “Independence Day” arrived. Since then, alien invasion movies are spreading across the mouths of moviegoers. This time, the aliens from Independence Day seek vengeance on earth, but would it be as iconic as the first movie?

Directed by Roland Emmerich, Resurgence reunites four of the old cast members (Goldblum, Spiner, Hirsch & Pullman) and introduces a bunch of way too many new faces, which is a bad thing in this movie. There are plenty of broken subplots which are carried by these new characters that feels insignificant to the main storyline.

It has some truly entertaining moments, due primarily to the battle sequences supported with stunning visuals and of course, Goldblum. However, what can this guarantee is that it spends most of time to the tedious political sessions, which do not catch the attention of the crowd.

VERDICT: Fundamentally, Resurgence is just a high budget indictment of corporate greed, filled with unnecessary characters and ways in pandering it to Chinese audience.
