Slick and sour, Heathers is a black comedy that satirises popularity and what it means to be 'cool' with cold-blooded murder and three fairytale antagonists in our titular Heathers. Both Christian Slater and Winona Ryder perform each line with heapings of wink wink nudge nudge and while there isn't immense chemistry between them, individually they are charming and full of angst.

Among the black comedy, there are surreal moments. Veronica's dream in the bizarrely designed church or the importance of the colour red and power, the world of Heathers is both a reflection of our own and a nightmare world where you can just murder your high-school enemy. Whether the film says anything about teen suicide is lost in the entangled central romance but the hilarious faux affections that arise from the countless suicides is golden. Heathers is a film which I would happily return to; indeed it is a film which is very.
