Tim Curry struggles to burst free from the nightmarish plot of Rocky Horror in one of the most confounding cult films I've ever seen. And, sadly, this isn't a case of entertainingly confounding. I found myself quite irritated at multiple times as the film regularly discombobulates and reveals a new enigma. Why has Meatloaf busted out of an icy prison on a Harley Davidson??

What causes my unwelcome sneer here is Tim Currys performance. He is magnificently camp but never ever ventures too far into comedy. He always manages to wrap the dark tendrils of horror around the audience when least expected. And then, shockingly, fits in some pathos too! With this magnificent performance cast in a projected prison, it's a tragic affair in more ways than one.
