Train to Busan is a Korean zombie film by director Yeon Sang-ho. It is a film I went into knowing little about. All I knew was it was a foreign zombie film that heavenly featured a train. What surprised me most about this film is the quality of the story. All too often, zombie films will feature a weak story that serves no other purposes than to hold together the various Zombie attacks. Train to Busan on the other hand features a very rich story with many excellent characters. The performances are excellent all around, but I wanted to especially mention Ma Dong-Seok, who plays a husband who is trying to save his pregnant wife, and Soo-an Kim, who plays the lead characters daughter.

One of my favorite aspects of this film are the zombies. They are fast, vicious, and the way they physically contort their bodies makes them truly terrifying. Without spoiling anything, I will say that I had a minor issue with the way the zombies used their senses to differentiate between humans and other zombies. But aside from the minor flaw, they are some of the best zombies I have seen in recent years.

By far the most unique aspect of this film is its setting. The concept of a zombie film taking place on a train is incredibly original and I will say that I was blow away by how well it worked. The way they utilized the trains cars, vestibules, and wash rooms was incredibly creative and made for a terrifying and suspenseful film. I give Train to Busan an 8 out of 10.
