  • WHAT I LIKED: The fact that 'Hercules,' fits so well into the Disney mold shows just how archetypal these films generally are. It seems surprising Disney hadn't hadn't already tackled Greek mythology by this point, and the fact when they finally did it follows the orphaned "Herc" on his journey from mortal Zero to Hero God by defeating evil and living up to the legend of his parents couldn't be more perfect. The animation is brilliantly fun, the characters are well drawn and comedically adapted, and the story is inherently engaging. It's basically the family fun you'd expect.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It does move along at a heck of a pace, and as such many of the serious character beats that often pack a real punch in these films is brushed over.

VERDICT: Greek mythology slots perfectly into Disney's brilliantly archetypal format, 'Hercules,' may not be the best from the studio, but it's great fun, family entertainment that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
