  • WHAT I LIKED: 'The Muppet Christmas Carol,' is only so brilliant because it doesn't attempt to soften the message of its classic source material. Sure it's light-hearted and it mostly focuses on puppet characters, but crucially the hardship of the workers in the town at the mercy of Scrooge, and the central journey that he then goes on is portrayed perfectly. The town itself is gritty and dirty (and tangibly so thanks to the brilliance of the puppets), Michael Cane does a fab job as Scrooge, and the script doesn't attempt to block out the darkness. That makes it a really great version of the Dickens story, and when you couple that with the fact it is equally fun at the same time, you've got yourself one great Christmas movie for the whole family to enjoy.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Sure it's a little sentimental at times, but if you can't have that at Christmas, when can you?
VERDICT: A great version of the classic Dickens story that doesn't shy away from its darkness or central message, 'The Muppet Christmas Carol,' may be a touch too sentimental, but it's very hard not to love in the end.
