The Greatest american screenplay ever made. The neo-noir of Jake Gittes is just classic cinema at its best. Roman Polanski weaves a tale of deception, depression, mystery, money and sorrow, to make a film plagued with the human condition, in a very, very good way. The lead roles are acted powerfully, with nuanced performances across the board. The score is chilling, haunting and curious, as it works seamlessly with the plot to uncover the mystery set in the murky morally ambiguous Chinatown
