  • WHAT I LIKED: Studio Ghibli's 'My Neighbor Totoro,' is a charming depiction of children's imagination coming to life.

It follows a family who move to a rural neighborhood, and the two girls are swept up in the excitement of imagining that their new house is haunted by "dust bunnies," and that a giant bear creature called Totoro lives in the nearby forest.

There's really not a lot more to it than that, but, as ever, the impressive animation makes everything jump off the screen beautifully, and the rain scene alone is something I'm sure I'll be seeking out as a comfort watch on YouTube...

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Roger Ebert accurately described this film as "benign," and though that is a rather lovely thing in some ways, it does also mean it lacks anything too engaging or thought-provoking.

VERDICT: 'My Neighbour Totoro,' is perhaps the sweetest of the Studio Ghibli offerings, and that's perhaps both a good and bad thing.
