While I was on board for the entirety of Ocean's Eleven, I departed the heist train about halfway through my journey here. While Soderbergh still directs with flair and energy, everything in the film looks recycled and stale. It's fun and upbeat but sorry Steven. I don't buy it.

The film is certainly a sequel. Its plot feels contrived and unnecessary yet it undoubtedly has some fun moments. Most disappointingly, the pay-off big heist isn't as rewarding as in the first film. You don't get that clockwork intricate plan. Instead, we're met with multiple layered flashbacks with as many twists as a grapevine. The 'it was all part of the pan' twist can only be so effective. It is only if the stakes before have been high that it pays off. Here, our characters don't get the chance to steal before being captured meaning that when it is revealed that it was all part of the plan, it feels confusing. The whole plan is to get pinched? Ehhhhh, I don't buy it.

There is some really fun stuff in the film. The names of various heist techniques are fun and stupidly numerous and the Julia Roberts scene is ridiculous but undoubtedly fun. Until Bruce Willis overstays his welcome that is.
