Molly Ringwald stars in this John Hughes classic; that centers around Andie. An poor outcast in her school;who's only real friends are her secret crush and best friend "Duckie" played by Jon Cryer, and her older boss Iona. She meets her love interest Blane; a vastly richer senior in her school who she instantly falls for. This movie was underwhelming for me; as I had been wanting to see this for while, and it sadly didn't fully meet my expectations. The love interest Blane is a very uncompelling character. The relationship with him and Andie is only slightly interesting because of their obvious financial differences. Aside from that he does have a small arc with his best friend, but it's far from the best thing about this movie. The real star in this movie is Jon Cryer. He is amazing; as his love interest for Andie, and the ways he goes about it are extremely charming and hilarious. Sadly after the first 45 minutes he is used sparingly; something that brings the quality of the movie down in my opinion. Andie's relationship with her father is superbly structured. As in their short screen time together; we manage to see the nuances of both characters. Honestly all scenes in this movie containing Duckie and the father are greatly entertaining. Sadly the other chatacters simply aren't as interesting. Andie is a compelling enough character, but as the film progresses I do get less interested in her. Overall the story is good, although it is quite basic. I did enjoy parts of the film, but definitely expected more.
