Beetle juice is a wacky odd-ball comedy with incredible prosthetics and visual effects. This isn't unique to eighties horror movies but, due to Burton's surreal set design and twisted mind, the film exceeds more than others.

However, the film is a victim to its own successes. While the cosmic folly is mostly humorous, the film feels too overwhelming at times. It fails to take much time to set up the world of the dead. Personally, it didn't bother me that much as I felt it attributed to Burton's hall-of-mirrors vision, yet it means that the story doesn't quite live up to the visuals.

Ending on a random dance number and a rushed resolution, Beetle juice leaves you feeling content like any good comedy. Yet, it fails to push the boundaries to incite another feeling, such as loss, something Burton is more than capable of.
