Firstly, I'd like to begin by thanking William Peter Blatty for disregarding the second film completely by burying itself in it's own turgid filth.

Here we are, the final step in my exorcist experience. We've had our ups and downs and here we have a nice flat bit land. This movie is, thankfully, entertaining.

Is it as scary as the first film? No. Is it as theologically important as the first film? No. Is it as good as the first film? Of course not. But I wonder whether Blatty ever intended it to be.

The film serves more as a crime thriller than a horror, until the very end. The plot is a bit desperate in seeking a reason for existence but through George C. Scott's gritty performance and the return of Jason Miller as Father Karras, I bought it and enjoyed it!

The first third of the film is a bit bland. We here descriptions of murders, yet never see them and we constantly wonder how the complicated murder plot ties in to the exorcist franchise.

However, as soon as we enter the cell of the Gemini Killer, the film becomes a tense supernatural thriller with some truly spooky moments and a fantastically surreal ending.

The film is a bit bulky in places and certain characters play little to no role but the film is entertaining in its own right. Don't bother comparing it to the original as Blatty doesn't even attempt to topple that behemoth. Just enjoy the tense moments of this decent crime thriller.
