  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Kill Bill Volume 2,' does attempt to add some character depth to the aimless attempts of its predecessor and in some ways it succeeds whilst the story builds to its final act as Uma Thurman does a great job and the serious underlying story ramps up a gear. This makes for a slower and more considered affair than the first film, and a slightly more engaging experience overall where the violence is properly felt.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: At the same time however, it's far from a smart character piece as it's still way more concerned with its constant homaging, and giving the thing a slower pace and serious script means there's more room to wallow in the movie's shortcoming as a serious drama and its lack of wit or pace either. In the end, it may not be as aimless as the first film then, but it arguably feels even more empty.
VERDICT: The second half of Tarantino's Kill Bill homage project takes itself more seriously than the first, and that's both a good and a bad thing.
