  • The Breakfast Club is one of the films we keep underground so that aliens can find it and know how the human race used to be like. My feelings for the film aside, it has quickly become a favorite of every teenager, and nostalgic adults alike, and that is because of its undeniable honesty, its real (however outdated) portrayal of high school cliques, and the elements of friendship it evokes. My gripes with the film are precisely as follows: however "serious" being in high-school is, it really is not a life or death situation, and I got vibes of pretentiousness effervescing throughout the film that took me out of the film. Also, Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall are the only actors in the film that seemed convincingly in high-school. The others (Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy) were, and seemed way too old to make it remotely believable. Regarding the acting performances, they're great for the most part; however, Judd Nelson's performance is so good it outshines the ensemble, and the others are left in the dust, with their slightly stiff portrayals. Despite my caveats, the film is still exceptionally well written, and boasts an iconic soundtrack to go with it. The Breakfast Club is truly a film that every teenager should watch.
