There was a moment in Ouija: Origin of Evil where the shear gravity of what had been uncovered by our protagonists washed over me as if someone had flicked a switch from "scared" to "terrified". This coming after having seen the trailer and thinking to myself, "Wow, that looks like one of the worst horror movies ever put to screen". OoE is not only scary, funny, twisted and clever, but it comes packed full of performances that each stand out on their own, from Elizabeth Reaser's mother to Henry Thomas's Father Tom, but it's all anchored by Lulu Wilson's wide range in a pivotal role. I haven't seen the first Ouija, but if you had the (seemingly) unfortunate displeasure of catching the original, please don't let it discourage you from checking this one out.
