  The word masterpiece is easily thrown around these days for films that might not deserve that honor. However, I must say this film is a MASTERPIECE. There are no flaws I have found in this movie, and it is honestly a gem of a film. It has a fresh, new, and exciting plot which masterfully intertwines with an incredible character study and amazing character development. I wish not to spoil this film for you, so I'll keep the details as few as possible. But i must be fair to this film, which excellently carries out a romance in a way that doesn't feel forced, or rushed, but exactly perfect. As it also gloriously fits into the plot in an extraordinarily crisp way. If I haven't yet convinced you to see this film, let me tell you the animation is simply gorgeous, and it's another indicator that hand drawn animation wins on any day. The scenery in the film feels so real and vibrant, so it is extremely easy to get lost in this beautiful world that Makoto Shinkai has constructed. Easily one of my most favorite films this year, and yes, I did tear up.
