Scorsese brings his style to this remake/reboot/reimaging/anotherwordbeginningwithre of Infernal Affairs. With a myriad of wonderful performances, particularly Mr. Nicholson who is clearly just playing himself (and it is beautiful), The Departed is an enjoyable thriller that takes away all the things that were wrong with Infernal Affairs and focuses on the intense police corruption story.

Yet, I didn't feel as tense in this movie. There's a particular scene where somebody meets an untimely demise in a very masty way. THis death was shocking to me when wathcing Infernal Affairs but here I felt it wasn;t executed with as much tension. In fact, overall, I didn't feel the same rising anxiety as I did with Infernal Affairs. This may be due to the fact that I know the story already yet tension in the film should be inescapable. The fact that I never felt it, implies it was never there in the first place.

Saying that the Boston dialogue and Matt Damon and Mr. Nicholson's performances more than made up for it. It's a fun thriller from Scorsese which is enthralling but seemingly unremarkable.
