  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Meet the Fockers,' works best when it's developing the characters we grew to love in the first film, as introducing the two sets of very different in-laws creates a device to test the ways of De Niro's difficult father rather than Stiller's Greg. This is especially good because De Niro is such a great screen presence, and in a way he gets more time to shine as a comedic performer here than he ever has done before. Couple that with similar cringe-worthy exaggerations and light-hearted situational moments like the first film, what you get is a sequel that largely succeeds. That's one unusual thing for a comedy part two, but it works here because these films are far more than the sum of their comedic parts.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: In fact, to further that point, a lot of the jokes really aren't that funny at all this time around...
VERDICT: A viable sequel that develops the characters from its predecessor whilst keeping its appealing situational exaggerations, 'Meet the Fockers,' is good fun. It's just really not that funny.
