  • Punch-Drunk Love is Adam Sandler's best performance, but unfortunately Paul Thomas Anderson's least gripping film. Paul Thomas Anderson uses color, simplicity and deliberately jovial music to paint a picture of the world's most awkward love story, and also the most tedious tale of self-redemption. While Adam Sandler and Philip Seymour Hoffman's performances are noteworthy, the rest of the cast (not including his sisters, they were hilarious) are rather dull, and add more awkwardness to a film already brimming with it. The film is too short for us to feel anything for the characters, and the situations are so ridiculous that we can hardly identify, or at least follow along willingly - with the narrative. Overall, the two plot-lines weave together well-enough, some performances are great, and there are a lot of good laughs. Fortunately for P.T.A these positives out-way the rushed and empty chemistry, mostly stale performances and the sheer awkwardness of the film.
