  • The “Alice in Wonderland” movie by Tim Burton gained success from its box-office, but it doesn't mean that we are clamoring for a sequel with “Alice Through the Looking Glass”. This time, James Bobin directs it, and obviously, he inherits the unique anomaly of Burton by utilizing posh imagery and make-up-obsessed characters.

‘Through the Looking Glass’ is indeed a messy film both visually and narratively - it is a torturous ride of visual extravanganza and incoherent storytelling filled with candy-colored eyesores and generic characters. But it manages to somehow be investing, because of its eerily captivating weirdness and wackiness.

As for some saving graces, Sacha Baron Cohen’s portrayal of Time as a lunatic guardian with a Schwarzenegger accent and Helena Bonham-Carter’s comeback as the hilariously psychotic-shouting Red Queen are something to look out for.

VERDICT: At the end of the day, it’s undecidable which ‘Alice’ movie is more visually aching. But one thing’s for sure, this is more heart, but less the Burton touch.
