Amazing dialogue, riveting cinematography and extraordinary storytelling capped off with captivating performances which begs the question. Is this better than the original? Which ever way u answer the question one thing is clear; this movie is a cinematic masterpiece which posssbly ranks Coppola's best piece of work. Al Pacino is unbelievable in a performance that somehow surpassed his original portrayal of Michael Corleone and that earned him his first best actor nomination. Diane Keaton is simply remarkable in her nuanced performance of Kay which astounds audiences with its depressing vibe. Robert De Niro in perhaps the best performance of his life in a portrayal of Vito Corleone in flashbacks that adds a new level of empathy and nuance which establishes Vito Corleone as one of the best characters in cinema history and gained De Niro an Oscar. Robert Duvall and John Cazale among others also give stellar performances. The movies dark and gritty design especially compared to the lighter first film may scare people away from the film, however this film is easily still to this day one of the best films ever produced and a brilliant second chapter to The Godfather trilogy
