  • WHAT I LIKED: Despite its crazy concepts and mad, spoofy originality, 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' is a film so comfortable in its own shoes that you'd be forgiven for mistaking Sofia Boutella's metal legs for slippers, but then I suppose that's exactly what one should expect of a director such as Michael Vaughn doing something like this. Yes Kingsman certainly doesn't harbour any kind of identity crisis as it discredits any potential concerns with sheer confident brilliance that means it hooks you and wraps you up with a huge grin on your face from the first to the final frame. Where does this great engagement come from? Well the focus really is on the snappy whit and fast editing that we saw most similarly in Vaughn's 'Layer Cake,' but what brings this to life so much more is the dazzle of a brilliant set of characters who are brought to life brilliantly by the all-star cast and help to occasionally round out charming arcs and themes. Indeed this isn't just good fun - it's fun with a heart, and that means you're always as engaged as you are thoroughly entertained and amused.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It's nothing particularly profound, but that is partly what makes it so great.
VERDICT: Kingsman doesn't care what it's trying to be, and so nor do we. At the end of the day it's top-class entertainment that has you grinning from the off and throughout. Take it for whatever it is and you'll have an absolute ball.
