  • WHAT I LIKED: It's hard to argue that there aren't at least some funny moments in 'Johnny English Strikes Again,' as Rowan Atkinson always manages to pull off a few very amusing sketches no matter what he's surrounded by.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The problem is however, what he's surrounded by here is pretty rubbish as this film decides to ditch the serious engagement built by the previous one and instead turn Johnny English into a thoroughly unlikeable character again. Yes rather than rooting for him like we did before, his sexism, arrogance and general lack of care for anything around him this time round means he very quickly becomes grating. Of course it could be deemed that that's all in the name of satirising the Bond genre, but it doesn't really work because it's also clear from the film's narrative that we're supposed to root for and pity Johnny, and frankly it's impossible to here.

VERDICT: 'Johnny English Strikes Again' heads right back to the realm of the first film - turning the lead into an unlikeable character and sending the whole thing well into the realms of absurdity. This isn't good satire, it's tosh.
