Love is the Devil acts as a series of snippets into Bacon's tested relationship with George Dyer. The film is chock-full of close ups, reflections, horrific imagery and bruised flesh. It acts as a wonderful depiction of Bacon's works yet it doesn't speak for itself as a film. In the scenes in the bar with Bacon's saccharine, rotting barfly friends, you get an inkling of Trainspotting or With Nail and I, telling us of a film which acts on its own. Yet, what we get is a film which depicts Bacon's life and paintings but not much more.
