  • WHAT I LIKED: 'Sucker Punch,' is slightly appealing because of how outwardly silly it is compared to some of Snyder's more self-serious efforts, but mostly it serves to prove that Oscar Isaacs can make even the worst character in the world believable and engaging. There's also some attempts at humanising the other people on screen - and even if the script doesn't have the knack for it, Zack Snyder's ridiculous visuals do work on occasion.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: Having said that, it's also true that the film packs less thematic sensibility and sophistication in its plot, visuals and storytelling than your average video-game made by a group of students on a Saturday night, as everything here is horribly executed and laughably uninteresting. One might hope to find solace in some vaguely engaging surface-level action instead, but unfortunately even there you'd be better off watching a friend play a video-game on a tiny laptop. The bottom line is this is one of the most unsophisticated blockbusters in years, and as the legendary Mark Kermode said, Pans People wouldn't lower themselves to this level.
VERDICT: Please someone just get Zack Snyder behind the camera of the music video he's trying to make and for heaven's sake don't let him ruin another film. 'Sucker Punch' is laughably terrible and hideously ugly, and should really be avoided at all costs.
